Penelope never believed she would end up in a loveless marriage, she had a dream of marrying her knight in shining armor much like most other women she knew. When she met Richard Matthews a knight is what she thought she found, a knight who ended up being more of a frog that just never ended up turning into a prince no matter how many times she kissed him. On a stormy May night in Tottenham, she gave birth to their first and only child, Elise, when she was only eighteen years old. The couple didn't have much going for them, financially or romantically, but Elise seemed to be the only thing Penelope needed in her life. Sadly, that wasn't the case for Richard who left and eventually filed for divorce just a few short years after Elise's birth.

Working up to three jobs at a time, Penelope did her absolute best to provide the necessities for her and her daughter, and because she was gone more often than not Elise became very independent from early on in her life. She relied heavily on her imagination and a small television set for fun, and that very same television set is what first sparked her love for singing. From that moment on, there wasn't a time where Elise wasn't singing. That and her natural inclination to being self-reliant and keeping to herself didn't necessarily make her much friends in school. It wasn't until she was accepted into the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology that both her talents and personality truly flourished.

When it came to music, for Elise it was never about becoming famous. While studying in the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology, she had her sights set on a career in A&R where she'd be able to help launch the careers of others over one of her own. Songwriting was more like therapy for her and she never imagined making a career out of writing, let alone singing those very same songs she once was so hesitant to let others hear. From childhood, Elise had always struggled with expressing her emotions and while she stumbled upon singing by chance, expressing herself through a song on a sheet of paper ended up becoming her saving grace. As fate would have it, Elise was approached by a representative of her current label after a demo she had recorded for a class project was uploaded to a social media website by a friend of hers. The rest is history, what she thought of as only therapy ended up becoming what she would be most known for.

Being in the music industry wasn't easy for her at first and she'll easily say it still isn't easy for her. Her entire life changed in what seemed to be just a blink of an eye and if she ever said she was prepared for the success she had so quickly, she'd be lying. Everyone who was close to Elise knew just how private she was and the music industry seemingly wasn't the place for someone like her. It was very much a real struggle for her in the beginning and it didn't help that she was going through a very pivotal time in her life, a time that included falling in love and being heartbroken for the first time. If her first album wasn't emotionally powered enough, her second album branded her the emotional singer of her time. Only when she felt as though she was truly connected to her fans through the release of that second album did she realize she truly was doing the right thing, the one thing she truly was meant to do.
